Richard Stoelzel is a distinguished musician with a diverse, accomplished career as both a trumpeter and conductor. Currently the Artistic and Music Director of The Florida Philharmonic, Maestro Stoelzel has held numerous prestigious conducting positions. He was the Principal Pops Conductor at the HARID Conservatory Orchestra, founder, and director of the Florida Wind Symphony, and Artistic and Music Director of the Lakeshore Concert Band in Montreal, Quebec. Most recently, Maestro Stoelzel conducted the Syracuse Orchestra in New York. His conducting experience also extends throughout Europe and Asia.
Maestro Stoelzel began his career as Solo Cornet with the United States Coast Guard Band, one of the premier U.S. military ensembles. He has performed with several prominent ensembles including the Detroit, Baltimore, and New Orleans Symphony Orchestras, the Miami City Ballet Orchestra, the Naples Philharmonic, and the Syracuse Orchestra. He currently holds the position of Principal Trumpet with the Palm Beach Opera Orchestra.
As a founding member of both Trio Paradiso and the Avatar Brass Quintet, Stoelzel has made significant contributions to chamber music with over 20 solo, chamber, and orchestra recordings. In addition to his performance career, he is a dedicated educator, currently serving as Professor of Trumpet and Brass Area Chair at McGill University. Maestro Stoelzel is also President of the World Trumpet Society as well as a Yamaha International Soloist.
